It took Jake Portello, a senior at Haddonfield Memorial High School in New Jersey, a knock on two doors to get a date for the prom.

The first was his knock at the residence of Philadelphia Phillies superstar and two-time National League Most Valuable Player Bryce Harper.

Portello told FOX29 in Philadelphia that he thought getting Harper to help with his promposal would be a unique way to ask his date to the June 14 event.

“I knocked on his door, he seemed cool with it at first, then he was like, ‘Can I get your email so we can plan this out?’ and as I was leaving he was like, ‘Why don’t we do this right now,’” Portello said on The Phantastic Sports Show Monday night, per FOX29.

“I wasn’t expecting this, I thought it’d be something cool among my friends and people in my town and stuff,” Portello said. “I didn’t even expect [Harper] to open the door in the first place.”

But he did, and together they went to the home of a teenager identified only as Giulia.

The viral video shows Harper actually did the asking on behalf of Jake.

“Jake wants to ask you to the prom so I thought I’d help him out,” said Harper, dressed in a white T-shirt and pants and wearing a Phillies cap. “So will you go to prom with him?”

“Yes!” Giulia responded.

“Awesome,” Harper said.
